Overview
The Higher Education Commission (HEC), through its Education Testing Council (ETC), is conducting the fifth and final Law Admission Test (LAT) for the year 2026. This standardized test is a mandatory prerequisite for students seeking admission into the 5-year LL.B degree program at any HEC-recognized university or law college in Pakistan.

Eligibility
- Education: HSSC (Pre-Law, Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, ICS, or General Science) or equivalent with at least 45% marks. Candidates awaiting their final results are eligible.
- Age Limit: No maximum age limit applies.
- Domicile: Candidates from all provinces and territories of Pakistan, as well as AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, are eligible to apply and may select their nearest test center city during registration.
- Passing Criteria: Candidates must secure a minimum of 60 out of 100 marks to pass the LAT and be eligible for university admissions.
Application Process
- Candidates must register online exclusively through the official HEC ETC portal (etc.hec.gov.pk).
- Generate the online fee challan and deposit the registration fee via designated online banking channels (e.g., 1Link, ATM, mobile banking apps, or designated bank branches).
- Complete the online profile, upload a recent passport-sized photograph with a white background, and select the preferred test center city.
- Download the Roll Number Slip from the portal once it is issued in November.
Selection Process
- Written MCQ Test: 100 Marks total. The test consists of an English Essay, Urdu Essay, General Knowledge, Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, and basic Mathematics.
- Result Validity: The LAT passing certificate is typically valid for two years for admission into any HEC-recognized law school.
- University Admissions: Individual universities will conduct their own merit calculations, interviews, or additional assessments based on the candidate's LAT passing score.
